History: The Aiken Housing Authority had condemned 60 apartments in Aiken due to a number of safety concerns. Nehemiah partnered previously with Community Development Improvement Corporation (CDIC) to build 20 homes for sale on some of the property made available after demolition of the condemned units.
Challenge: Replace old, unsafe public housing with varied single family homes.
Solution: Twenty-three homes were built as rental units for a 15 year period. The homes will soon be available for sale to the renters occupying the homes using no interest deferred second mortgages to make the homes affordable. The Busch Crossing development is transforming Aiken by replacing old, unsafe public housing units with beautiful, varied single family homes that will strengthen and enrich the surrounding neighborhood for years to come.
