History: Eagle’s Nest Apartments is dedicated to the memory of Walter Gorham who passed away after a motorcycle accident in 1992. After Walter’s death, friends and fellow motorcycle riders in the Greenwood area decided to raise money to provide a residence for troubled youth in their community. Nehemiah formed a partnership with the Eagle’s Nest group and Beckman Center for Mental Health Services to complete a development that focuses on housing young adults with emotional problems.
Challenge: Develop a residence for troubled youth in the Greenwood community.
Solution: Nehemiah, the Eagle’s Nest Group, Beckman Center for Mental Health Services, and the Greenwood Housing Authority collaborated to bring this memorial dream to life. Greenwood Housing Authority is providing the rental assistance. The community building was beautifully furnished with generous grants from the Self Foundation and the V. Kann Rasmussen Foundation. The first phase included the community building and 12 one bedroom apartments. The dedication and luncheon for Eagle’s Nest Apartments took place on October 28, 2005. A second phase of 8 one bedroom units is now complete.
